1. Introduction
_______________
Months I've been waiting for C&C:Red Alert. The day it became available
at the local CD-store over here I already had it ...
Now, I've already played it out over a dozen times.
But, to make your life easier, and to spare you a lot of sleepless nights,
I wrote an editor for this great game.
With it, you can edit every unit in the game. Maybe I'll update it in the
future, but for now you'll have to do with this.
* Special thanks go out to those awesome guys at WestWood Studios.
Keep up the good work, fellows!
2. What is Red Alert?
---------------------
Red Alert is a strategy game, produced by Westwood Studios.
It's the sequel to Command & Conquer: The Tiberium conflict,
which was a big hit on the CD-ROM-hit-lists in 1995. Now, at
the end of 1996, it looks like C&C:Red Alert is going to score
bigtime as well.
3. What is the Editor?
----------------------
With C&C:Red Alert - the Editor, you can change a lot of
things on Red Alert's units. For example, you can change their
price. Isn't that quite handy?
Note: a mouse is required for the Editor!
4. Usage
--------
First, you place RA-EDIT.EXE in your Red Alert directory
(default is C:\WESTWOOD\REDALERT). Then you run it, by simply
typing RA-EDIT at the DOS-prompt.
When you run RA-EDIT you will first see a titlescreen. You can
skip it by just pressing a key or a mouse button.
Now, you will see a menu, in which you can choose from three
items: Infantry, Vehicels, and Buildings. I think you can
guess what these mean. When you've selected one item, you get
to see a second menu, in which you can choose one of the 14
Infantrists, 26 Vehicels, or one of the 32 Buildings Red Alert
contains. After the selection of one of these, you get the
third and last menu. In this, you will see information on the
selected item, and by clicking on the thing you want to chan-
ge, you can edit it.
Below all items and its meanings are listed:
ammo: the number of rounds carried between reloads [-1 means unlimited]
armor: the armor type of this object
cloakable: is it equipped with a cloaking device?
cost: cost to build object (in credits)
funeral: does the object explode violently when it dies?
guardrange: distance to scan for enemys to attack (in cells)
invisible: is the object completely and always invisible to enemys?
owner: who can build this object?
does damage: points value for scoring purposes
required: list of buildings needed before this can be manufactured
weapon 1: primary weapon equipped with
weapon 2: secondary weapon equipped with
ROT: rate of turn for body (if present) and turret (if present)
reload: time delay between reloads
selfhealing: does the object automatically heal up to half its strength?
sight: sight range (in cells)
hit points: strength of this object
techlevel: tech level required to build this (-1 means can't be build)
sensors: has sensors to detect nearby cloaked objects?
multiplay all: can be built/owned by all countries in a multiplayer game
plasticbomb: equipped with sabotage explosives [infiltrate must be true]
panic easily: is it inherently afraid and will panic easily
infiltrate: can it enter a building like a spy or thief?
dog locig: should special case dog logic be applied to this?
speed: speed of this object
passengers: number of passengers it may carry
place in base: considered for building adjacency checks?
distance: distance allowed to place from other buildings
attached bib: should the building have an attached bib
capturable: can this building be infiltrated by a spy/engineer
crewed: does it contain a crew that can escape?
power: power outpot [positive for output, negative for drain]
powered: does it need power to function?
repairable: can the building be repaired?
storage: the number of credits this building can store
unsellable: can this building be sold?
waterbound: is this building placed on water only?
In the bottom of the screen, you'll always see three more buttons:
Defaults, Save and Quit. When you press the Defaults button, everything will
be set as when you first install the game. If the Save button is pressed,
the Editor will save your data, and C&C:Red Alert will use your data to play.
I think you can guess what happens if you press the Quit button.
5. Bugs
-------
C&C:Red Alert Editor is still not perfect, so if you find a bug, or
if you have some suggestions to make it perfect, please let me know.
I myself do not have a modem, but you can leave me a message at FuTuRe
DiMeNZi0N ( Number See EXC-INFO.EXE ) and I'll receive it.
Just leave me (fatal Vision/Excalibur) a message.
Or, if you do not have access to a modem you can send me a letter by
snailmail. My address is:
Chris Heunen
van Schelbergenstraat 19
5913 TW Venlo
The Netherlands
I'd like to hear from you what you think of my program, and what can be done
better, or what is perfect already. Just write what you think of it, even if
you think it's just a dull program which you'll never use.
Thanks in advance.
6. Future versions
------------------
Because Command and Conquer: Red Alert is very likely going to be updated,
I think there will be more versions of the Editor as well. By the way, you
can find game updates on Westwood's web page at http://www.westwood.com or
at their FTP site (ftp.westwood.com).
